Most know that the Switch version is the worst version by now performance wise. Performance wise, the PS4/Xbox versions are fairly serviceable as a whole in assuming you play the JP release. Again, the JP versions don't have the same audio/text issues that the western/overseas releases do. Symphonia Remastered is pretty lazy and a number of issues come from the lazy port job and localization stuff that happened all the way back with the PS3 version. New ghosting issues on models, poor audio mixing for some new dub lines, extra bloom/blur issues (blurry visuals was something on PS3 version vs 360 original too) stutters, missing accurate color versions of the Abyss Cameo costumes, missing the Keroro costume, and some hidden unused outfits not unlockable by other means which can only be restored/fixed in full on PC. ToV:DE/R is definitely much better quality as mentioned port wise (and with the post release patch), but it is definitely missing a bit and is based on the PS3 port so it isn't as if it actually has more new original content added than the PS3 release other than some new dub lines for the west (JP is still the same and in tact), and higher frame rates outside (and inside for PC) of combat. they were already phoning it in, it was just more apparent with Symphonia. In reality, the port wasn't really much better at all than Symphonia, they just didn't create as many new bugs. ![]() I don't think it turned out to be a bad release, but I do think people give it undue credit because they personally felt like they were experiencing newly created features. And some other bugs and minor performance issues. And they accidentally created weird audio issues in the game, too. Also, it was likely motivated entirely by money because Troy Baker (who is much more famous now and costs more) said he wasn't even approached about doing the extra work. Maybe this has happened somewhere before, but I've never seen a developer do this, where they had a similar situation and didn't just hire actors to record an all new script because they couldn't get me the original actors back (ala Dragon Quest VIII on 3DS). they got new actors for some of the characters, making strange scenes where characters have their voice change mid scene and just odd back and forth. Frog Karol costume just because it's so funny) and then the extra voice overs needed something they practically couldn't avoid because there are moments where certain characters like Yuri would have suddenly been unvoiced in the middle of story cutscenes if they hadn't. In fact, the only things they actually did were cut costumes from the game that they didn't want to have to re-license (one of my personal favorites among them, the Keroro Gunso/Sgt. It might have been nice for users who hadn't played that version of Vesperia, but they just directly ported Vesperia to modern consoles as it was released in Japan on PS3 back in 2009, a decade earlier. ![]() ![]() The comments on Vesperia might be technically true but there misleading because Bandai Namco didn't do anything for the Definitive Edition of Vesperia either. That's really not particularly honest, though.
